IHU On-Line - How do you evaluate the Rio 20 and also the People's Summit? What are the advances and challenges in relation to sustainability?
Ivo Poletto - Participated only the Dome of the people. So my evaluation of Rio 20 is based on what I heard from people who were there and it was published in electronic media. My assessment is that: she did not even advance meant for large corporations wishing to globalized capitalism; para a humanidade, it worsened somewhat what was already bad long.

IHU On-Line - Despite all the civil society mobilization, concentrated in the Peoples' Summit, Heads of State received criticism for producing a final text without goals. What is the social manifestations of political intervention in the decision making? Such manifestations which have political impact?

IHU On-Line - As the central themes of Rio 20: green economy, global governance and poverty reduction were discussed at the Summit of the Peoples?
Ivo Poletto - Thousands of self-organized workshops and seminars, as well as the Plenary Assemblies of Convergence and the Peoples, these three themes were certainly the most strikingly analyzed and criticized. IHU On-Line - What was the message of civil society in relation to environmental issues and sustainability?
Ivo Poletto - It was clearer than ever that the social and environmental areas are faces of the same reality - and this will deepen the closeness between indigenous movements and environmental movements, social movements, feminist and other. Hence the Dome deepened perspective that care about the environment of life must go together with the care of one's life. And it is sustainable which ensures that the Earth can continue offering a balanced and healthy environment for life and that humans have necessary to lead a dignified life.
Another strong message from civil society free of large companies and governments is this: there is no possibility of balance environmental much less true sustainability if mankind continue subjected and dominated by capitalism. There is direct contradiction between the pursuit and imposition of economic growth without limits and without end and finitude and limitations of the environment created by the Earth. Therefore it is impossible that there is a society with social and environmental justice while is kept as natural and untouched almost absurd concentration of wealth in few hands, and while some people, they are not even 20% population terrestrial, continue demanding as natural consuming more than 80% of all forms of energy and goods produced on the planet. The ideological proposal that each person becomes rich, capitalist and country look to reach the levels of consumption that are rich today is absolutely impossible, for two main reasons:
(1) because capitalism has in its DNA the necessity of the existence of those concentrates wealth in the form of capital, increasing their power to exploit workers, he wants to survive costing you as little as possible, so your profit is greater;
(2) because, of all forms, if that happened, unbalance the Earth to such an extent that warming and climate change become impossible the continuation of human life on this planet.
